This Optical Illusion Will 'Break' Your Brain - But For 15 Milliseconds Only

The Pinna-Brelstaff illusion features a dot in the middle with circles made of diamond-shaped dashes surrounding it. When you stare at the dot and move your head closer, the circles will appear to move clockwise. Now, if you move your head back, slowly, the circles will appear to change direction to move anti-clockwise. See for yourself: This optical illusion breaks your brain for 15 milliseconds https://t.co/7ThwTYktXn pic.twitter.com/xBL4C3FNht — New Scientist (@newscientist) February 19, 2019 The team found a 15-millisecond delay between the activity of neurons that perceive global motion - in this case the illusion that the entire set of lines is moving - and those that perceive local motion, in this case that there is actually no movement, explains New Scientist. "Our brains probably have the same delay, which may seem like a flaw," explained Ian Max Andolina of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to New Scientist. "But they are just being efficient. When...

Phone that lasts 50 days without charging?

Energizer showed off the Power Max P18K Pro phone with 18000mah battery. The Energizer PowerMax P18K Pop is as thick as two to three ordinary smartphones and features an 18,000 mAh power pack that is claimed to be the highest capacity ever seen in a smartphone, compared with the 2,716 mAh battery of the iPhone X. To put that into perspective, the maker claims: “Users will be able to make up to 90 hours of calls, listen to 100 hours of music and watch two days of video on a single charge. In standby mode, the battery lasts up to 50 days.” While the battery might compel people to buy the P18K Pop, some of the phone’s other hardware isn’t quite as impressive. It comes with a 2GHz CPU from MediaTek and isn’t waterproof, but there are some modern features: USB Type-C for ‘fast charging’ (8 hours for a full charge), 6GB RAM, a 6.2-inch LCD screen, a triple-lens 12-megapixel rear camera array with depth sensor, Android 9, and a popup dual selfie cam. Additionally, that enormous battery...
